Taking It To The Streets – 2008

This year the inaugural year for Taking It To the Streets – a campaign for reaching out and making a difference through acts of service to our own community. Read below a small collection of testimonies from those who participated.

One step toward making a difference, one foot in front of the other and before you know it, your walking in faith, in Christ, in love. One servant shared “I’m glad I was able to help out and enjoyed getting to meet some other members of HCC. There’s just something about serving with other Christians that ignites your heart to go out and make a difference.” We are reminded in Matthew 9:37 “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” but in the beauty of knowing a little can go a long way another who served expressed with us “My team was motivated by knowing they were doing a project that will last for a long time. The men installed fencing that will allow the ‘foster farm’ to house goats, more dogs, and other small animals. There will be animals and kids that will be kindly touched through the fencing for years to come, it didn’t take a whole lot of time to help a lot!” Here is a brief peek into the hearts shared throughout this week of how hearts were touched throughout our staff and congregation:

“My “Taking it to the Streets” experience started early Saturday morning downtown Atlanta. Twenty-one homeless men and women gathered around our two full-size vans anxiously waiting to load and leave. Patrick, Abram, Chocolate, Wayne, Robert,…real people with real names with real lives, just lives that seem so different from yours and mine. Our purpose for the day was to bring these friends to our church property for a day of fishing, softball, basketball, R&R and a HUGE picnic spread compliments of our Heritage Primetimers! God blessed us with good weather and in the end we discovered our lives really aren’t all that different. We have the same needs. We have the same wants. And for many, we have the same Savior.”

“To sum up my experience in one word, “wildfire”, I feel blessed to have witnessed from start to finish the strong number of folks passionate about serving, ready and willing to work no matter the weather, the distance, the tasks to tackle, ready to go BE Jesus. My “God sighting” was during the celebration service where we watched video footage and photos of several of the projects that took place earlier Sunday, hearing testimonies from members of all ages of how they wanted to go out and bless others but in turn were touched and blessed through the experience. The emotion, heart, and desire to take this further spread like wildfire.”

“It truly was an honor, joy and privilege to serve alongside each of you this morning as we Took It to the Streets. What a blessing to be able to “be the church” in such a radical way by serving our community together. It was great meeting many of you for the first time and seeing your servant spirit alive and well through your humble service. I really enjoyed watching families working together to spruce up the grounds and make an indelible imprint on our local schools. Thanks for your sacrifice and for making a difference this morning!”

In closing let us leave you with this quote from the song “God of this City”…let it marinate.

“For greater things have yet to come, for greater things are still to be done in this city.”
